Secretary’s Challenge Accepted for Santa Clara County
UnitedWaySV has accepted U.S. Dept. of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' "Secretary's Challenge" to boost children's enrollment in health insurance. In Santa Clara County, more than 18,000 children are uninsured, often because parents don't know they're eligible. UnitedWaySV will accept the Challenge by undertaking activities that will cut red tape by simplifying enrollment and renewal in Healthy Families and Medi-Cal and support the passing of Measure A on the November 2010 ballot. For more information on how you can join us and take action to keep our children healthy, contact Megan Tracz.

Board Approves Endorsement of Measure A - Healthy Kids
Photo-2_Asian_Children.jpgUnitedWaySV's Board of Directors recently endorsed Measure A, the Santa Clara County Healthy Kids Parcel Tax, on the November 2010 ballot. Passage of Measure A is necessary to prevent thousands of children from losing their insurance and to ensure that all eligible county children have access to health coverage including preventative healthcare services, early detection and treatment.  Support of this measure aligns with UnitedWaySV's 2013 goal of providing 100% of local children with access to routine health care.  Email Megan Tracz if you'd like to support efforts to pass Measure A.

U.S. Dept. of Justice Accredits SIREN
Logo-SIREN-Partner_Agency.jpgCongratulations to United Way partner agency, SIREN (Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network) on receiving approval to provide quality, low-cost immigration legal services to low-income immigrants in Santa Clara County.  According to Tuan Nguyen, Immigrant Services Program Director, SIREN intends to open its legal doors to the community on October 1, with a focus on family visa and domestic violence petitioning.  United Way supports programs like SIREN because gaining citizenship helps local people increase their financial stability and independence through expanded employment opportunities.
