Advocacy Alert
Governor's Proposal Could Wipe Out
Health Coverage for
32,000 Santa Clara County Children
On January 8, Governor Schwarzenegger unveiled a budget proposal for fiscal year 2010-2011 that could potentially eliminate funding for California's Healthy Families program unless the state is able to obtain federal funding. Without federal funding, more than 32,000 children in Santa Clara County and 874,000
statewide would lose health
coverage currently provided by
Healthy Families.
Even if the state receives federal funds, and Healthy Families is not completely eliminated, the Governor has proposed eligibility reductions, cost-sharing requirements, and significant benefit reductions would likely drop coverage to approximately 8,000 children in Santa Clara County and 200,000 statewide.
Denying hundreds of thousands of children access to health coverage could have life-long and life-threatening implications for them. And it won't help solve the budget crisis.
These short-sighted cuts will cause California to lose precious federal dollars and force children into more costly types of care, resulting in increased costs for our state, businesses and families.
PLEASE TAKE ACTION TODAY!
We need your help today to save health coverage for more than 874,000 children. Urge your legislator to reject Governor Schwarzenegger's proposal to cut Healthy Families by e-mailing your legislators directly.
