Applications for Financial Education Grants Due June 17

Bank on San Jose was awarded a grant totaling $113,000 from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to enhance the financial education component of the United Way Silicon Valley program. Financial Education Partnership Grants for capacity building will go to 10 local non-profit agencies that deliver basic financial education. June 12: United Way Silicon Valley recently honored local companies and their employees for their commitment to philanthropy at its Annual Campaign Appreciation Event at the Decathlon Club. Accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP earned top honors winning the Spirit of the Valley Award for its increase in contributions and volunteer activities. More Winners...

(Channel 15 in San Jose and Campbell Only) The first joint production by United Way & CreaTV entitled “State of Silicon Valley Non-Profits: Basic Needs” focuses on the impact the economy is having on Santa Clara County non-profit agencies and their programs. The three-segment show features a panel discussion moderated by Carole Leigh Hutton, United Way CEO, with executives from four local non-profit agencies. The second and third segments feature panels with donors and real clients talking about the positive impact non-profit programs have had on their lives. May 27: Carole Leigh Hutton, United Way president & CEO, and other local children’s health advocates discussed the impact of proposed budget cuts, including the elimination of Healthy Families and severe cuts to Medi-Cal at a press conference held at CompreCare Health Center in San Jose. Children’s advocates, physicians, and families asked the Governor and the Legislature to not make children bear the brunt of the cuts, and further exacerbate the children’s health crisis in our state.
